Diyatha Uyana Park was opened in late 2012 by Mr. Basil Rajapaksa who was then the Minister of Economic Development and Secretary to the ministries of Defense and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is the current president of Sri Lanka. The project was carried out by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and the Civil Security Department personnel under the close guidance and supervision of the Secretary of Defense and Urban Development who made Colombo and other cities so beautiful and clean for its people

එදා කෝට්ටේ රජ වාසලට 'බත්' සදහා අවශ්‍ය වී සැපයූ ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගය, බත්තරමුල්ල ඔස්සේ දියවන්නා ඔය හරහා වැටී තිබූ නිසා මෙය 'බත්තොට' පෙදෙස හෙවත් බතින් තරවූ ප්‍රදේශය ලෙස නම් විය. ජනවහරයේ දී බෙන්තොට - බෙන්තර මෙන්ම, කලුතොට - කළුතර මෙන්ම 'බත්තොට' - බත්තර වී පසුව බත්තරමුල, එයිනුත් පසුව 'බත්තරමුල්ල' වුවා විය හැකිය. 'බත්වල' නැමති කුඹුරු යාය නිසා බත්තරමුල්ල නම හැදුනු බවද ඉතිහාසයේ කියැවේ.
